Through the love and loss of the ages, immortality brings only one certainty: vengeance.
Disinherited and poverty stricken, bastard Danial clutches at the slim chance to earn a living as a guard, until a night attack leaves both him and his half-brother Devlin vampires. After finding true love with the aristocrat Lacey, Danial comes to the attention of James, the devious Vampire Lord of France. Enslaved by James, his love murdered, Danial plots to escape, his complex plan of years finally succeeding only to result in all of Europe’s demonic forces on the hunt for him.
After a reunion and subsequent falling out with Devlin, Danial travels to the new world of America in pursuit of a new life. Settling in the west, Danial forms alliances with native vampire Valerian and the witch Cheyenne to survive a game of cat and mouse with Devlin and protect his new love Kathryn amid his rapidly changing world. Triumphant yet nursing a broken heart, an undeterred Danial protects his friends and thwarts his enemies, determined to find a life of peace…until unexpected news comes of James’s presence, the one man on whom Danial has waited centuries to get revenge.
About the Series: In the Promise Me series, Sarelle, a mortal woman, encounters a wounded (and sexy and handsome) vampire, Danial. Without knowing who he really is (a murderer for hire, for one), Sarelle begins a romantic relationship with him a little too fast. Interestingly, Sarelle also finds herself attracted to Danial's best friend, the werecougar, Theo. What will happen to Sarelle's relationship with Danial? Where does Theo fit in? Amidst new obstacles and relationship problems, Sarelle has to decide where her future lies.

I let out a gasp, and threw myself backwards, stumbling back into shadow. Devlin roused, and came over. He reached into the sun, grasping the wood, then pulled it into the shadows, his skin smoking.

He turned to me and opened his mouth to speak, then stopped, running his tongue over the larger canines his mouth now contained.

I tried to talk and cut myself on my new teeth. I have not only two larger upper fangs, but two lower fangs, as well. Scared, I got a stick, and began writing in the dirt.

We are what that thing was, I wrote.

Devlin didn’t reply. He was now carefully touching his teeth with his hands, as if he couldn’t believe what he was feeling.

I’m going home, but we can’t travel until night, I wrote.

Devlin didn’t reply. We passed that day in silence, trying to relearn how to talk. That night, we began our journey home.

Our journey home took much longer. Not only did we not have horses, we had no food, and needed to find shelter each dawn from the sun. Our hunting brought us only squirrel and rabbit blood, which tasted good to our new vampire palate. But there was never enough of it to truly slack our thirst. The one good point was that we spent this time learning to talk again around our sharp fangs, something that took us hours to master.

A third of the way home, we crossed paths with a traveling merchant riding a horse and pulling a mule with a cart. He didn’t recognize us and mentioned in passing the hottest local gossip from Pamplona. The massacre of our party had been discovered, and it was believed that Devlin and an accomplice had done it. The local magistrate was looking for Devlin and his man, dead or alive. Devlin hadn’t told anyone I had been part of his garrison, so no one was looking for me, something I was relieved to discover.

Devlin killed the man as soon as he slept, then drank his blood by biting him on the throat, just as I had been bitten. But his fangs were intact, and the holes he made were small and neat, not gaping ragged tears. When he offered me some of the blood, I drank the rest. The taste was sweeter than animal blood, and I felt strangely revitalized, when I’d finished. Devlin and I didn’t speak of it, but I thought he felt the same way.

“I’m going north,” he mentioned, as we buried the man in a shallow grave. “I’ll take the horse, and you can take the wagon and the mule.”

“How can you just leave? Don’t you want your family to know what happened?”

“Who will believe me?” Devlin said angrily. “The ghoul’s head and hand is now so rotted it is useless. And Father will never accept me as an heir now that I’ve got fangs.”

“We don’t know how many others like us there are in the world,” I cautioned. “We don’t know enough about what we are now to split up!”

“If we go back to our lives, we’re going to be discovered very fast,” he said, as he readied the horse. “We can’t go out in the day. Hell, we can’t even laugh, Danial!” He mounted the horse.

I grabbed his stirrup. “Think this over, Dev. We have to make some kind of a plan.”

He looked down at me, a cruel cast to his face. “It’s easy for you, isn’t it? You’ve never had anything, Danial. I’ve lost everything, even the things I thought I despised.”

“How dare you,” I hissed back at him, baring my fangs. “I lost the little I had, because of your treachery. Stupidly, I trusted that you needed my help, and again, all I have done is lost the little that mattered to me!”

“Then you should be happy to never see me again,” Devlin shot back. He kicked the horse, and it took off at a gallop, disappearing into the trees.
